Me & the Maldives

All about life in Maldives! And other fun things in my life …

Life in Maldives

I live in Maldives, a small sunny, tropical nation which is located in South Asia. Maldives has 26 coral atolls, each of them with hundreds of small, beautiful islands surrounded by glorious sea. A lot of sea, to be exact 99% of Maldives is Ocean and only 1% is land.

Maldives is the number one tourist destination, – and the picture-perfect home for several amazing reasons. Maldives has a sunshiny, hot and humid kind-of weather and magnificent coral reefs with so many colorful fish to see. It’s a wonderful experience to go snorkeling or diving here! The pearl-white sandy beaches are desirable to see the sunset or just hang. I ❤  going  swimming because the sea is just so crystal clear!

This is K. Male’. It is the capital of Maldives.  Full of busy streets, many vehicals and vast buildings, it is the busiest city in Maldives. Majeedhee Magu , the busiest and most eventful street, you can find many fabric shops and shopping centers  on either side. BoduThankurufaan Magu is also full of activity, but currently the government has started work of an Artificial Beach . Soon, it will probably be more peaceful and lots of fresh air too!

Male’ also has many historic monuments and places of interest such as Jumhoori Maidhaan, Mulee aa ge Place, Mohamed Thakurufaan Ziyaarai,Hukuru Miskiy ( It is a mosque,  The mosque serves as a place where Muslims can come together for salat ( meaning “prayer”) as well as a center for information, education, and dispute settlement) and many more.

I will share some information about some of the points of interest:

Jumhoori Maidhaan : It was built in1989 but it was renewed again this year and the water fountain was replaced with a more remarkable one. Jumhoor Maidhaan ( Republic Square) is a place to relax, talk and have fun. Many people also come to see the “musical water fountain” with it’s astonishing lights and music.

Hukuru Miskiy : Hukuru Miskiy is the most probably the most ancient and the most beautiful mosque in Maldives. It was built mostly out of coral and has amazing carvings. It cannot accommodate many people but it is very beautiful all the same. It also has some tombs of people including some of prehistoric Kings.

Mulee aa ge: Mulee aa ge is positioned really close to Hukuru Miskiy and used to be the President’s residence.

A little distance from Male’ there lies a little island, not a busy city like Male’ which is bustling with activity. NO, this island is calm and peaceful with a lovely breeze and many trees. There are no vehicles except a few taxi vans, taxi pick-ups and environment friendly buggies .This is where I live. I think I am very fortunate to be living here with the beach and water which tempts a lot of people from Male’ to come and have a swim. The beach is not far away from my home, so we can go there lots.

Maldives is a wonderful place to live and to holiday. It’s magnificentwaters so beautiful it drives me crazy! I highly recommend coming here , especially in December, because December is the “holiday” season sunniest of all! 😀

Have you ever been to Maldives?
